Split has become mostly defined by the chaos in which it operates, globally and locally. Tourism, migration, depopulation, dying of industry, populism and resignation, increasing inequality, European Union projects, local ambition, high hopes and low resources, limits of the ecology and limits of economy, individuals greed etc.
Split stretches the boundaries of possible, imaginable, real, legal and surreal in its spatial development on an almost daily basis. It does so due to the structural lack of responsibility in spatial planning. Consequentially, the city is thriving on the edge of collapse.
The conference will try to turn the negativities of this perspective into positive potentials.
During this these three days we will address three issues in form of panels and workgroups: operating frameworks of urban politics, the reappropriation of ecology of public space, citizenship within planetary limits. It will be followed with public panels and presentations, exhibition, screening and other activities. We will mock the non-existing legal entity, an Institute of
Urbanism of Split, learning the needs of it as a public space for citizen empowerment, reproduction of profession and urban radical ecology. The seminar we organize is initial action for creating long-term inclusion process in order to share knowledge, inspire with good practices and create long-run cooperation channel.
Our overall vision is to create political and civic actions and (proto-) institutions founded in environmental and social responsibility, cooperation, respecting the natures limits and the consensus about the idea of minimal conditions for a good and affordable living in the city.
